iPhone Math Rumored for June of 2013

All things D reports that according to the China Times, translated by BrightWire, Apple plans to release a bigger smartphone in June alongside an updated version of the iPhone 5 (the 5S).

The reported name of the device: the iPhone Math.

The news is that the Math will have a 4.8 inch screen.

There is no telling about the veracity of this rumor, but it would be great if it were true.  There are only two weeks left in June, so we will know fairly soon.

New iPhones in the fall lineup.

Reuters is reporting that Apple is looking to change its iPhone lineup  According to the rumor, two new sizes of larger smartphone devices will be added:  a 4.7-inch and a 5.7-inch model. The larger sizes are being considered alongside a less expensive iPhone model.

The less expensive model is thought to begin production next month or August.
The cheaper iPhone would be launching in September following full production kicking off in August, according to some of Reuters’ sources, with an initial shipment target of around 20 million low-cost devices for the holiday quarter next year. Reuters adds that the low-cost phone would cost about $99, probably on contract.

A "new" Nexus 7 looks to be in the works.

Asus has sent a 7-inch “pad” device to the FCC for approval.  The document shows that the device features a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, a 4,000 mAh battery pack, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and 4G LTE.

Other information suggests it will be compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile, and most likely Verizon Wireless. There is no exact screen size or resolution listed.

No official word from Asus, however, so it is still speculative.

6/11/2013:  iPad 5 will lose weight and be thinner and narrower.
Rumors from a maker of covers for the iPad, Gumdrop, says that the new iPad 5 will be about 15% thinner and 33% lighter than the existing models.  If my arithmetic is correct the iPad 5 will weigh in at just uinder one pound (.98lb).  Existing models are 1.4 pounds, and the iPad 2 is 1.33 pounds.

This rumor does not address the narrower issues other than saying it will be narrower.  It probably is accomplished by reducing the bezel size a few fractions of an inch.

This weight and size loss will be significant for eReading, making it easier to grip and hold for a longer reading session.
